1. What this program is
The Evelyn McCollough Estate Item Tracker (evysestate.jklabs.dev) is a private web application used by the five beneficiaries of one family estate to catalogue the estate’s belongings and take turns choosing among them. Each person on the clock has a limited window — an hour, a day, a week, depending on the selection round — before their turn passes to the next person. These text messages exist so that a beneficiary does not lose their turn simply because they were not looking at their email.
This is a private, non-commercial program with a fixed list of recipients. It sends no advertising, no promotions, and no solicitations of any kind, and there is nothing being sold.
2. How you join (opt-in)
You subscribe yourself at evysestate.jklabs.dev/sms-signup. The form asks which family member you are, asks you to type your own mobile number, and shows a consent checkbox that is not ticked in advance — you tick it yourself and press “Yes, sign me up!”. The box reads:
“Yes, text this number about estate item selection: when a selection round starts, when it is my turn, a last call before my turn expires, and when results are up. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel, HELP for help.”
We keep a record of that agreement — who agreed, the number, the exact wording above, and when. You then receive a confirmation text, which both welcomes you and proves the number reaches you.
There is one fallback route: if you would rather not use the form, you can give the estate administrator your permission directly — in person, by phone, or in writing — and they will enter the number for you, recording that permission the same way. No number is ever added without the express permission of the person it belongs to, and no number is obtained from any other source. We do not buy, rent, or import numbers.
Consent to receive these messages is not a condition of any purchase and is not a condition of receiving anything from the estate. A beneficiary who declines texts still receives every notice by email and loses no rights in any selection round.
3. What we send
Text messages carry only the time-critical notices:
- a selection round you are part of has started, and who picks first;
- it is your turn to pick, and how long you have;
- a last call roughly 15 minutes before your turn expires;
- a link to the results when the selection round finishes.
Every message identifies the program, names the selection round, and links to the relevant page of the Tracker. Longer or less urgent notices — a missed turn, the full list of who took what — are sent by email only.
Example message:
Estate selection round “Dining Room”: it’s your turn to pick. You have 24 hours. https://evysestate.jklabs.dev/?lot=Dining%20Room
4. Message frequency
Messages are recurring and event-driven, not scheduled. Volume depends entirely on how many selection rounds the family runs: during an active selection round you might receive several messages over a few days, and in quiet periods you will receive none.
5. Cost
Message and data rates may apply. We charge nothing for these messages, but your mobile carrier’s standard messaging and data charges apply as normal. Check your plan if you are unsure what those are.
6. How to stop (opt-out)
Reply STOP to any message from this program. You will receive one confirmation that you have been unsubscribed, and no further texts. Our system also automatically switches your text alerts off in the Tracker when it sees that you have opted out, so nobody will re-enable them by accident.
You can equally just ask the administrator to remove your number. To start the alerts again later, sign up once more at evysestate.jklabs.dev/sms-signup — replying START or UNSTOP tells the carrier it may deliver our messages again, but it does not by itself put you back on the alert list. Opting out of texts does not affect your email notices, which continue unless you ask for those to stop too.
7. How to get help
Reply HELP to any message, or email jkjk43@gmail.com. There is a real person at that address.
8. Supported carriers and delivery
Delivery is subject to your mobile carrier’s network and is not guaranteed. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Because delivery cannot be guaranteed, the Tracker also shows whose turn it is on the site itself, and every text notice has an email counterpart — please do not rely on a text alone to keep track of your turn.
9. Your privacy
Mobile numbers are used solely to send the messages described above. No mobile information is sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes, and text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are never shared with any third party. Numbers are passed to our SMS provider (Twilio) only so that a message can be delivered. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms; the revised version will appear on this page with a new date. If what we send or how often we send it changes materially, we will say so to the beneficiaries directly.
